Locals Questions - November 2023Hello Stefan. Ive recently become fascinated with the life and death of writer Robert E Howard (the creator of Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane and other such characters). He was a very talented writer but had a very troubled relationship with his parents, especially his mom, which led him to take his own life at the age of thirty. This inner pain seemed to have fueled his creativety and as an aspiring author myself I wonder, how can that inner darkness best be harnessed for that task?I recently got heat in the instagram's crunchy home birth community after saying it's wrong to make little children watch while their mom is butt naked giving birth to her baby. I personally think all kinds of nakedness and sexual energy should be kept away from kids, but the women started opposing me saying things like "then why are the kids looking so happy watching it?" or "why would it be traumatising? That's where the kids came out themselves too?" and "we should normalise birthing for kids so they're not afraid to have kids themselves" under a video of a 3-year-old staring his moms butt and streched out bloody vaginaIn a recent episode you referenced your “complicated relationship” with the word “selfish.” In my youth I stood by the Objectivist definition as completely positive- the pursuit of rational long-term self-interest. But life experience made me back away from that, because selfish people are so difficult to have relationships with. I never reassessed my definition of the word- but have you arrived at some all-encompassing definition of what it means to be selfish?Join the PREMIUM philosophy community on the web for free!Get my new series on the Truth About the French Revolution, access to the audiobook for my new book 'Peaceful Parenting,' StefBOT-AI, private livestreams, premium call in shows, the 22 Part History of Philosophers series and more!See you soon!https://freedomain.locals.com/support/promo/UPB2022

A new mum was slammed for taking her newborn and husband on a hen do in Spain – after she couldn’t face leaving the tot at home.Elizabeth Kenina, 30, originally planned to go on the hen do solo but when it came to booking the tickets she struggled with the idea of having to leave her little girl, Michelle, eight months. The bride, Laura, 32, was happy to accommodate the tot along with Elizabeth's husband, Alex, 33, a software engineer. The trio jetted out one day early to Mallorca, Spain, in August 2023, and Alex stayed with Michelle while Elizabeth went out with the girls.Elizabeth was able to enjoy all the activities - such as wine tasting, dinners and beach clubs - as well as popping back to see and breastfeed Michelle.Despite strangers shaming her for the choice, Elizabeth says she “wouldn’t do it differently”.Elizabeth, a senior marketing manager, from Manchester, said: “I didn’t feel I could leave her.“I was breastfeeding.“It wasn’t the case of baby crashing.“My husband stayed with the baby. I got to enjoy times with the girls.“I wouldn’t do it differently.“I wanted to enjoy it as a mum.”Elizabeth was three months pregnant when the hen do was planned and had thought she’d be able to go on her own.She said: “When the baby came and it was time to book I wanted my husband and baby with me.“For me to go for a long time I’d have to stop breastfeeding.“I didn’t want to do that.“I told my friend this is the situation and asked ‘do you mind?’“She was really nice. She really wanted me to be there.”Elizabeth said having Michelle and Alex there didn’t get in the way of the plans or her enjoyment. She got to enjoy vineyards, sightseeing and rooftop bars. Baby Michelle even joined the hen party on the final dinner – as requested by the bride.Elizabeth said: “There wasn’t a moment that I felt alone.“The bride asked me if my husband and Michelle could join for dinner.“Everyone was excited to have them.“There wasn’t any trouble.”Elizabeth shared a video online and was slammed for her choice. One commented: “Sounds like hell.Another said: “No you either say look I’m not ready or you go and let your hair down.”But many also jumped to Elizabeth’s support agreeing they wouldn’t be able to leave their baby either.Elizabeth said: “It’s ruffled some feathers.“It‘s upsetting it’s women putting other women down for no reason."There seems to be no winning situation here. If I didn't attend the hen, I'd be considered a bad friend. "Yet going with a baby still seems to result in being labelled as 'bad'.“I 100 per cent rely on my husband. He’s amazing.“I felt less stressed. I knew what was happening.“I knew he’d be fantastic if I left him alone but I couldn’t leave her.”Even now Michelle is 14 months old, Elizabeth struggles to leave her for more than a day.She said: “There will be that moment when I’m ready to leave her for longer.“I’m happy for anyone who can do that.“Do what works for you best.”

A plus-sized mum who was shouted at and told to “go on a diet” on her first night out away from her baby - says she is "proud" of her body.Jaz Harris, 31, has always been confident in her size 20 body but was shocked when strangers heckled her in the street on her first night out since having her son Vinicius-George, now two.The strangers called Jaz “fatty”, “obese girl” and yelled that she should “go on a diet” before following her and her friend, Deanna Byron, 29, down the road. But despite the comments “knocking her” initially, Jaz now “accepts and loves” her body and didn't respond to them. She says she is the “fittest and healthiest” she’s ever been and is embracing her size as a plus-sized model.Jaz, a model and content creator, from Rochford, Essex, said: “Nobody should have to put up with hate speech – whether it’s about their appearance, their sexuality or their ethnicity.“I’m fed up with it being normal and accepted. It’s disgusting. “I am so proud of my body and don’t want anyone else to feel discouraged because of their size."Jaz had always been confident growing up but truly found self-love after a solo trip in May 2018.Shortly after returning she met her fiancé Ellis Smith, 25, a football academy director, and they welcomed their son Vinicius-George Smith, now two, on 27 August 2021. They cherished their son's first months - especially after being warned they may not be able to conceive due to Jaz’s polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)diagnosis - a common condition that affects how a woman's ovaries work. Jaz didn't put pressure on herself to shift any baby weight but was feeling good when she was invited on a friends hen do in January 2022 - her first night away from her baby. She said: “I hadn’t got dressed up for a night with the girls in a long time – I was so excited.“I did feel a bit nervous about leaving Vinny, but I knew Ellis would take care of him so just wanted to make sure I enjoyed time with the girls instead of worrying."While heading home from her night out she was heckled by three men.Jaz said: “They commented ‘alright darlings’ as we walked past and asked us where we were going, but my friend said we weren’t interested and were going home.“After that they turned round and started heckling. “They called me a fatty, obese, told me to lose some weight and that I was ugly. “I didn’t turn round, but their voices were getting louder so I knew they were following us. “Luckily, my friend’s boyfriend was picking us up at the end of the street. He’d got out of the car to see what was going on, but I just told him to get in and drive – I didn’t want to give them what they wanted or cause any trouble."Since the incident Jaz has re-found her confidence and wants to stop the pressure of having to 'bounce back' after birth. She said: "There’s so much pressure on women to bounce back after pregnancy. “I wanted to show people what ‘normal’ looks like, and how proud I am for my body and the joy it’s brought to my life and my little boy. "I think the term bounce back is horrific. It can't be bounce back belly it should be bounce back with you."Jaz shows off her plus-sized figure online and said she is trolled daily. She said: "The word fat is thrown around like glitter."I'm the fittest and healthiest I have ever been."Your size shouldn't offend you.“I’ve come a long way on my self-love journey, and I want to encourage other women to do the same.”
